It commemorates the giving of the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai to the Jewish People, and is the festival of harvest. It is in fact like a regualr Shabbath, as far as closing of businesses is concerned, the only change you’ll find in Tel Aviv is in the great variety of dairy products offered in cafes and pastry shops.
