Sukkoth (Tabernacles)

Sukkoth lasts seven days, during which religious Jews and children gather in a sukkah, which is a hut-like structure covered with tree branches. Jews are required to make the sukkah their primary living area, or at least eat most of their meals there. You probably won’t encounter many such huts in Tel Aviv.Simchat Torah comes right after Sukkoth, and it celebrates the end of the reading of the Torah. Each Shabbat a new Parasha (section of the Torah) is read, and this day marks the reading of the very last one and the reading of the first once again. It is a day of big religious partying, but has no relevance or effect on Tel Aviv’s daily life.
