Yom Ha’Shoa (Holocaust Day)

The international Holocaust Day is held on January 27, while the Israeli Holocaust Day is held in the spring, to commemorate the 6 million Jews exterminated by the Nazis and their allies during World War II. This specific date also marks the Jewish Warsaw ghetto uprising.

ALL businesses close down after dark, even kiosks and 24/7 convenient and grocery stores, and streets are literally deserted. So you should get food and whatever else you need beforehand. The next morning is a regular business day.
At 8PM on the eve of the memorial day and at 10AM the next day you’ll hear a loud siren go off for two whole minutes. People will stop whatever they’re doing and stand still in the streets, vehicles will come to a halt even on highways and passengers will get out in respect for the dead and the survivors. If you are on the street, you will be expected to do the same.
