Nightlife

The Old North

One of the side effects of the Old North being less urban, with a little bit more space between buildings, sidewalks, cars and people, is that the night life scene is noticeably different. If you’re looking for a mega bar or a hip pickup place to get some action, you’re definitely in the wrong part of town.

The Old North’s inventory is made up mostly of neighborhood bars, unassuming, with a loyal and regular crowd consisting of people looking to socialize with friends or with the friendly bar owners. The alcohol is cheaper than in the port, Rothschild or Lilinbloom, the drinkers are a bit older and the volume of the music is just a few notches lower than that in the regular Tel Aviv bars. It’s with less umtsa-umtsa and with more rock, so it’s perfect if you prefer a quiet drink in a good a relaxed atmosphere.

A good recommendation would be Morty & Helen (196 Ben Yehuda), named after the TV parents of Jerry Seinfeld. Friends bar on the other hand is not named after the American TV sitcom, but was rather given that name for its local bar feel with a cozy atmosphere, with rock music emanating from the speakers. Rosa Parks (265 Dizengoff), like the name of the African American civil right icon, is another 30-plus spot, with chillout music or funk to help pass the time.
