Shopping

Tel Aviv Shops, Markets, Boutiques and Sales

Tel Aviv has all the shopping options God gave (wo)men. There are big malls, markets, streets dedicated to shopping, boutique shops, 2nd hand stores, etc. It just never ends. All you need to do is locate the shopping area most relevant to your specific shopping needs and likes, and charge on, with one hand holding a credit card and the other an empty suitcase.

Shopping Malls

Opera Towers

Dizengoff Center (Dizengoff-King George) is big enough to be divided to two parts. It’s a commercial center with all kinds of shops in it, as well has a Food Fair and a Designers Market on Thursdays and Fridays. The Opera Towers Shopping Center is right on the esplanade, but in spite of this prime location has been mired in mediocrity.

A bit farther from the city center you’ll find Azrieli Center (Menachem Begin Road, Ha’Shalom Junction), which has become a place people go to and more than just a mall. Shopping lovers and families go there to shop, eat, sip coffee, watch movies or just pass the time. Many of the stores are up market. The Ramat Aviv Mall (40 Einstein, Ramat Aviv) is the posh-est mall around, but you’ll have to take a taxi or a long bus ride (lines number 24 or 25 from the city center) to get there.

The Old Port doesn’t include a mall per-se, but it does offer a mall-like experience with mall-like outlets that cater tourists.

Street Shopping

Even though we’re living in the era of the shopping mall, street shopping is still alive and well in TA.

It starts from the cheapest of items in King George and Allenby. Things go up a notch in Bugrshov and its off-beat and vintage clothes and Sheinken’s retail outlets, while on northern Dizengoff and Florentin’s back streets you can find designer shops selling clothes and accessories. For supreme high end shopping, don’t mess around and take a taxi straight to Kikar Hamedina, a huge square with nothing but the most expensive brands known to man or woman. Neve Tsedek and Ha’Tachana Complex are the places to go for artsy items, crafts and expensive (not retail) jewelry.

Markets

Tel Aviv’s “regular” markets, like Carmel and Ha’Tikva, sell the cheapest clothing items and knockoff jewelry. The Junk Market on Dizengoff Square specializes in second hand “stuff” that people want to sell, and evidently other people want to buy. The Crafts Market on Nahalat Binyamin includes stalls selling ceramics, glasswork, woodwork, handmade jewelry and photographs, with street performers all around. You won’t always find the best of crafts in this market, but you’re guaranteed to have a good time.
